prognosis

Prognosis means “knowing beforehand”. In medicine the term describes the prediction of the likely course a disease will take. To make a prognosis, the current state of the disease is critically assessed. Doctors draw upon statistic and scientific criteria, but also on their experience. The prognosis can change throughout the course of a disease.
