Data protection policy for informedhealth.org
The IQWiG processes your personal data when you use this website. This data protection policy explains the details of how this is done, informs you of your rights (see section C. Your rights – Data protection) and lists the necessary contact details (see section B. Contact details).
To maintain the operation of the website, your IP address is transferred to us when you use this site. These IP addresses are stored for 14 days in order to make it possible to determine the cause of any malfunction and ensure the operation of the website. If there are no malfunctions, all of the IP addresses are deleted after 14 days and not compiled with any other personal data. These data are not shared with any third parties except as required by law in the case of criminal prosecution.
A. Detailed information on the processing of data
The processing of your data is handled as follows:
1. Contact form
The contact form allows you to send us queries via e-mail. For the purposes of managing your query, we process your e-mail address and the text content of your query. We process your data on the basis of your consent as defined in Article 6, paragraph 1, lit. a of the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The information is forwarded to the mailbox firstname.lastname@example.org. The response is sent from the same e-mail address, and the information is deleted within 30 days of the conclusion of this processing. Your personal data are not shared with any third parties.
2. Recommending website content (e.g. a health information article)
You can recommend our information to others via e-mail. For the purposes of managing your recommendation, we process your e-mail address and that of the recipient. We process your data on the basis of your consent as defined in Article 6, paragraph 1, lit. a of the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The information is sent to the recipient, and no processing or storing of the e-mail addresses occurs, so no deletion is required. Your personal data are not shared with any third parties.
3. Newsletter subscription
You can receive current information from us via e-mail by subscribing to our newsletter. For the purposes of sending our newsletter, we process your e-mail address and your newsletter request. We process your data on the basis of your consent as defined in Article 6, paragraph 1, lit. a of the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). When subscribing to the newsletter, you receive a confirmation e-mail (double opt-in – confirmation of the newsletter request). Your e-mail address is deleted within one quarter year of unsubscribing from the newsletter and inactivation of your user profile. Your personal data are not shared with any third parties.
For searches on our website we use a modified version of Microsoft’s Bing search engine. Our servers direct search queries to Microsoft’s servers in such a way as to prevent Microsoft from receiving any information about our website’s users. Your IP address is not forwarded by us, either.
5. Facebook and Twitter
If you are a member of one of the social networks Facebook or Twitter, you can share our information in your social network. For the purposes of improving and increasing the reach of our information for you, we offer links to these social networks. If you are logged in as a member of Facebook or Twitter when you use these links, the IP address of your device will be shared with that social network. This means that your visit to our website will be connected to your social network account. We process your data in accordance with Article 6, paragraph 1, lit. a (your consent when you use the link) of the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Further processing by Facebook or Twitter may occur in a country with a lower level of data protection. You can find further details on this in the data protection policies of Facebook and Twitter.
If you would not like Facebook or Twitter to collect and use your data, we recommend logging out of the social network in question and deleting your cookies before visiting our website.
To better understand some specific health issues, you can view films about various subjects on our YouTube channel. For the purposes of improving our services for you, when you watch our film your device’s IP address is forwarded to the provider YouTube. We process your data on the basis of your consent as defined in Article 6, paragraph 1, lit. a of the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Further processing of the data is performed at YouTube in a country with a lower level of data protection. You can find further details on this in YouTube’s data protection policy.
8. Matomo and AwStats website use analytics
To analyze the use of our website, we process the IP address of your device only in an anonymized form. Matching the IP address to your person is therefore not possible, and not intended.
9. Health On the Net (HON)
Our website is certified according to the standards of the Health On the Net (HON) Foundation. The HON seal that you find in the footer of our website pages confirms that the “HONcode” code of conduct is upheld. When you access our website, the seal image is retrieved from the HON Foundation’s servers and your IP address is transmitted to the foundation. We process your data on the basis of an overriding legitimate interest according to article 6, paragraph 1, lit. f of the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR); it is in our interest to demonstrate the verification standards of our website. Your personal data are not shared with any other third parties.
