Decision aids

The Ottawa Personal Decision Guide was designed to help people who are facing difficult decisions that will affect their health or social lives. It can help you to explore your individual needs, plan the next steps and track your progress. It can also make it easier to share your views with others who are involved in the decision.

The decision aid takes you through four main steps:

  • What decision am I facing?
  • What are my options? Who can help me?
  • What do I need in order to be able to make a decision?
  • What else can I do to feel more confident about making a decision?

The decision aid can't replace a professional consultation. But it can help you prepare for a conversation with healthcare professionals or people close to you.

We do not offer individual consultations.

Our information is based on the results of good-quality studies. It is written by a team of health care professionals, scientists and editors, and reviewed by external experts. You can find a detailed description of how our health information is produced and updated in our methods.
